Tyra Banks stalker Brady Green found guilty, but won't do jail time

The dapper drifter convicted of stalking supermodel Tyra Banks will get to stay out of jail - but his time in New York is up.

Manhattan Criminal Court Judge James Burke found Brady Green guilty of stalking and harassing the stunning talk-show host Thursday but opted against locking him up.

Instead, Green will have to get help for what prosecutors called his "unhealthy obsession" and get a job - preferably far away from Banks.

"Put Mr. Green in a location where he can thrive," Burke said to defense lawyer Jeffrey Berman. "And that is not likely to be the city of New York."

Green, who wore the same brown suit to court every day, blinked rapidly as Burke announced the verdict, then had his back stroked by his lawyer.

"I'm disappointed with the verdict, but I'm glad the judge did not send him to jail," Berman said.

Burke didn't buy that Green turned up at the Chelsea studio of the "Tyra Banks Show" in search of tickets just hours after completing a cross-country bus trip.

The 39-year-old Georgia man had been placed on the show's "do not admit" list when he mailed five dozen roses to Banks and repeatedly called her assistants. Banks testified that Green's surprise visit in March 2008 was terrifying.

"His purpose was to make himself an important figure in Tyra Banks' life, to make Tyra Banks recognize him," said prosecutor Sean McMahon.

A spokeswoman for the supermodel did not return calls.

Green testified that he simply wanted to "do something nice" for Banks as a way of thanking her for segments on racism and homelessness.

Also a big fan of Oprah Winfrey, Montel Williams and Geraldo Rivera, Green said he was drawn to Banks while watching her show in his hometown of East Dublin, Ga.

"I heard him talk about Tyra Banks, but I never paid him no attention," said his mother, who asked to be identified only as Mrs. Green. "I guess he was a big fan."

His mom said she had raised her oldest son "to be respectable" and that "he's not a dangerous fan."
